When the intercostal muscles contract, the ribs are moved upwards and outwards also the the sternum is moved forward.
The action of the intercostal muscles has no effects on the diaphragm which has a muscle of its own( when the diaphragm contracts it becomes flattened).

Answer is A(I)

when the intercostal muscles contract the ribs are moved upwards and outwards also the sternum is moved forward. This action has no effects on the diaphragm which has a muscle of its own ( when the diaphragm contracts it becomes flattened). All these steps takes place during inspiration.

The answer is A (I)

The intercostal muscles are responsible for moving the ribs upward and outward, which is process I. Therefore, the correct answer is A. Process I is a direct result of contraction of the intercostal muscles.

The intercostal muscles contract and move the ribs upwards and outwards. This increases the size of the chest and decreases the air pressure inside it which sucks air into the lungs.

Contraction of these muscles raises the rib cage upward and outward, thereby contributing to the expansion of the thoracic cavity and reduction of pressure within the lung, causing air to move from the air into the lungs
