crucible & soil =29g
crucible & soil after heating = 18g
.'. remember when the soil was heated it lost moisture (water).
crucible & soil before heating – crucible & soil after heating = moisture loss
29g - 18g = 11g
the questions requires the percentage of water in the soil
so the mass of the soil is
crucible & soil - crucible = mass of soil
29g - 10g = 19g
percentage of water in the soil is
11/19 Γ— 100%
= 57.89.....%
~ 60%

Percentage of water in the soil sample
=Wet weight - dry weight/dry weight Γ— 100
Wet weight=29g
Dry weight=18g
% = 29-18/18 Γ— 100
=11/18 Γ— 100
=0.6111 Γ— 100
=61.11%
