Phosphorus deficiency tends to inhibit or prevent shoot growth. Leaves turn dark, dull, blue-green, and may become pale in severe deficiency. Reddish, reddish-violet, or violet color develops from increased anthocyanin synthesis. Symptoms appear first on older parts of the plant.

So, phosphorus is like the fuel for plants. It helps them to grow, produce energy, and make food (photosynthesis, you know?). When plants don't get enough phosphorus, they can't transport water and nutrients properly, and it affects their breathing and growth. They even turn red(in some cases)
