Interveinal chlorosis is the yellowing of leaf tissue between the veins while the veins themselves remain green. It is primarily associated with magnesium deficiency, especially when the symptom first appears in older leaves. This occurs because magnesium is a central component of the chlorophyll molecule and is a mobile nutrient; when it is scarce, the plant breaks down chlorophyll in older leaves to transport magnesium to newer growth.
