Fingerprints are categorized into three main types: loops, whorls, and arches. Loops have curved patterns that hook on both ends, whorls have circular rings, and arches have single ridges curving up or down.
Simple (Plain Arch): The simplest fingerprint pattern where ridges flow smoothly from one side to the other.
Compound is not a recognized type of fingerprint. Fingerprints are classified by their patterns, primarily into loops, whorls, and arches. While some prints may appear to combine elements of different patterns, these are more accurately described as composite patterns rather than a distinct "compound" type.
