Hydras use nematocysts, which are stinging cells, to immobilize their prey. These cells, found on the tentacles, contain coiled, barbed threads that inject a toxin upon contact with a potential prey. The toxin paralyzes or kills the prey, making it easier for the hydra to capture and digest it.
