The answer is c definitely because the D you guys chose is one of the importance of courtship as a female not yet in heat would express disinterest in the male's antics.

myschool.ng pls the answer is c, if you insist the answer is D u should atleast provide and explanation, many students like me are depending on this app for effective study, mistakes like this if it is could be costly

The correct answer is C. protection of territory.
Here's why:
* A, B, and D are all valid reasons for courtship in animals. Courtship rituals are crucial for:
* Species identification (A): They help females identify and select a male of the same species, preventing hybridization.
* Arousal and readiness (B): The behaviors and displays can physically and psychologically prepare both partners for mating.
* Timing of fertilization (D): Courtship often triggers or coincides with the female's ovulation, maximizing the chances of successful fertilization.
* C. protection of territory is not a primary purpose of courtship itself. While territorial defense is a common behavior in many animal species, it is a separate activity from the courtship process. An animal defends its territory to secure resources like food, nesting sites, and mates, but the act of courtship is specifically about attracting and preparing a mate.
@myschool team, please, rectify this.
