The selected answer is wrong:

According to the 2nd law of thermodynamics which states that energy transfer from one level cannot be 100%. So energy is lost on its transfer from the lower to upper trophic level because not all the energy are utilized by organisms of the adjacent trophic level.so the energy transferred reduces for each trophic level.
