Glycolysis is a metabolic pathway that does not require oxygen for the breakdown of glucose into pyruvate or pyruvic acid by enzymes in the cytoplasm of the cell.
Then the NADH + H+ generated by glycolysis has to be transferred to the mitochondrion to be oxidized, and thus to regenerate the NAD+ necessary for glycolysis to continue.
