Taking cognizance of the word 'directly'; the answer is Endodermis
Daniel go to ur modern Biology text and look at the diagram very well
Note that pericycle, pitch and vascular tissues ie xylem and phloem are Called Stele.
Therefore Endodermis is the answer ✔️✔️

the root is made up of 2 cylinders, the outer and the internal. now the out cylinder consists of the 1piliferous layer.2, the cortex.3 the endodermis. Then after the endodermis we have the inner cylinder also called the stele, composed of 1,the pericycle. 2 ,vascular bundles. 3, pith. so from this explanation, the answer is C. please recheck ur answer chief

I'm sori u are wrong endure because In a vascular plant,

the stele is the

central part of the

root or stem[1]

containing the

tissues derived from

the procambium.

These include

vascular tissue, in

some cases ground

tissue ( pith) and a

pericycle, which, if

present, defines the

outermost boundary

of the stele. So it shows from here that pericycle is the closest to the stele.

It should be endodermis but they said "directly" the pericycle it is
