Explanation

(a). Activities that should be carried out on 4a the farm before the arrival of Specimen D (Day old chick) - Clearing of bush and surrounding. –Cleaning and disinfecting of poultry house, - Washing and disinfecting of.poultry equipment. – Provision of appropriate Iitter materials. Provision of brooding equipment. -Provision of feed.- Provision of medication/glucose. Provision of water. –Provision of heat a few hours before arrival. -Repairing of brooder house. - Provision of light.

(b) Observable reactions of Specimen D (Dày old Chicks) when the temperature in the poultry house is: (i). High: -Move away from the heat source. -Panting.-Heat stress. -Chicks feed less. - Chicks drink more water. – Chicks spread out wings. - Death. (ii) Low: -Chicks move/cuddle together. -Chicks are less active. Trample one another. - Mortality occurs. - Move closer to a heat source. - Chirping. - Shivering. (iii) Moderate: - Evenly spread out. – They are active. - Feed normally. - Drink normally.

(c). Disadvantages of using Specimen E (coal pot) in poultry house.- Produces choking fumes which could lead to respiratory diseases. - Produces smoke. -Could result in a fire outbreak. - Labour intensive, - Birds can jump into the pot causing death. - Heat cannot be easily regulated.

(d). Uses of Specimen F (Electric bulb). - Provision of heat for chicks during brooding. - For illumination/lighting, – used for candling.- To increase the day Length in layers/photoperiodism.
