. rhizobium is nitrogen fixing bacteria meaning it reduces gaseous nitrogen (N2)to ammonia (NH3) . Azotobacter is also NITROGEN FIXING but is not in symbiotic relationship with plants . that is it is free living
NITROSOMONAS is the bacteria that oxidizes ammonia ( NH3) to nitrites ( NO-2) which is the first step of NITRIFICATION . the second step of NITRIFICATION is done by NITROBACTER which oxidizes Nitrite(NO-2) further to nitrate (NO-3)
