(a) Name the parts labelled A to J in the diagram

(b) Give the gestation period (in days) of the following animals
(i) Cow
(ii) Sow
(iii) Ewe
(iv) Rabbit (doe)

(c) Describe briefly three methods of management care in ensuring the survival of a newborn calf

Explanation

(a)

  • A=Funnel
  • B= Ovary,
  • C egg or ovum.,
  • D = fallopian tube or oviduct,
  • E= spermatozoon/sperm,
  • F= uterus,
  • G= estibule,
  • H=vagina,
  • I= cevix,
  • J = vulva.

(b)(i) The gestation period for:

  • Cow =283 days
  • Ewe = 147days
  • Sow = 44 days
  • Rabbit (Doe) = 31days.

(c) To ensure the survival of a newborn calf;

  • The mucus membrane should be wiped from its nose to prevent suffocation 
  • The naval cord should be cut and dipped into an iodine solution
  • Give colostrum
  • Dam should lick the calf dry
  • Ensure proper sanitation of the pen.
