Short notes on four food nutrients of livestocks are: (i) Carbohydrates: Cornposition: it contains carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. Sources: From maize, guinea corn, cassava. Functions: It provides energy to the animals
(ii) Proteins: composition: It contains nitrogen, carbon, hydrogen, oxygen. phopphorus and sulphur. Sources: Fish meal. groundnut Ike, soyabeans meals, legumes Function:: Helps in the replacement of worn-out tissues, for growth. production of eggs and meat.
(iii) Fats & Oil: Composition: .it contains carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. Sources: Oil seeds like groundnut Cake and palm kernel cake. Functions: It supplies energy and conserve body heat.
(iv) Minerals: composition: Sodium, Calcium, phosphorous, Magnesium etc. Sources: Bone meal, oystershell, limestone, synthetic minerals, salt licks etc. Functions: Bone, teeth, eggshell formation and development, constituent of blood, acid-base balance.
