I learnt that UNIUYO no longer writes POST-UTME exams,but uses WAEC/NECO result to screen for 50%,while JAMB score also carries 50%. Please how are the O'level grades calculated?

Here is how it done.

The grade points is as follows;
A = 6 points
B = 4 points
C = 3 points
Total Percent = 30%

One sitting = 10 points
Two sitting = 3 points
Total percent = 10%

Total Percent of O’Level Grading = 30%+10% = 40%

Let me explain the above statistics.

What A = 6 points means if you have an A let say on Mathematics as your grade in WASSCE, NECO, and any equivalent result you have scored 6 points already.

What one sitting = 10 points mean is if you clear all your subjects in WASSCE at first sitting or you are using one result either WASSCE or NECO, you have already scored 10 points.

What two sitting = 3 points means is if you are combining two result then you only scored 3 points. Hope that is clear.

The JAMB grading point is as follows:
1. 180 – 185 = 20 points
2. 186 – 190 = 21 points
3. 191 – 195 = 22 points
4. 196 – 200 = 23 points
5. 201 – 205 = 24 points
6. 206 – 210 = 25 point
7. 211 – 215 = 26 points
8. 216 – 220 = 27 points
9. 221 – 225 = 28 points
10. 226 – 230 = 29 points
11. 231 – 235 = 30 points
12. 236 – 240 = 31 points
13. 241 – 245 = 32 points
14. 246 – 250 = 33 points
15. 251 – 255 = 34 points
16. 256 – 260 = 35 points
17. 261 – 265 = 36 points
18. 266 – 270 = 37 points
19. 271 – 275 = 38 points
20. 276 – 280 = 39 points
21. 281 – 285 = 40 points
22. 286 – 290 = 41 points
23. 291 – 295 = 42 points
24. 296 – 300 = 43 points
25. 301 – 305 = 44 points
26. 306 – 310 = 45 points
27. 311 – 315 = 46 points
28. 316 – 320 = 47 points
29. 321 – 325 = 48 points
30. 326 – 330 = 49 points
31. 331 – 335 = 50 points
32. 336 – 340 = 51 points
33. 341 – 345 = 52 points
34. 346 – 350 = 53 points
35. 351 – 355 = 54 points
36. 356 – 360 = 55 points
37. 361 – 365 = 56 points
38. 366 – 370 = 57 points
39. 371 – 375 = 58 points
40. 376 – 380 = 59 points
41. 381 – 400 = 60 points

JAMB Grading percentage total = 60%

Overall Total = O’Level percentage + JAMB percentage = 40%+60% = 100%

Now that you have known the grading point lets do the calculation together. Let us first used a candidate who scored 260 in JAMB and have 2 A’s and 3 B’s in his/her O’Level result in five cord subjects in one sitting;

From the above grading point, 260 in JAMB = 35 points

2 A’s = 2×6 = 12 points ( where A = 6 points )
3 B’s = 3×4 = 12 points ( where B = 4 points )
Therefore 2 A’s + 3 B’s = 12+12 = 24 points
At One sitting = 10 points
Total of O’Level gade points = 24+10 = 34 points

The total cut- off points is calculated by adding your together JAMB score point + O’Level Grade points.

So in our set example, JAMB score 260 = 35 points and O’Level grade point in five key subjects plus number of sitting = 34 points.

So the total point that the candidate score is 35+34 = 69 points.

The candidate may be given provisional admission but if he/she choose medicine and surgery as his/her most preferred course of study but the university of her choice set the cut-off point for medicine at 90 points.

It therefore means the candidate will not be able to secure admission into that course in uniuyo.

2. Combined Results--2 points
A1-----------------6 points
B2 and B3---------4 points
C4 – C6-----------3 points
For example
Yakubu Kehinde Obinna scored 242 in UTME = 32
points
He applies for Electrical Engineering
He presents only one WAEC result=10 points
He has 1A, 2B and 2C in the necessary subjects.
1 A: 1 x 6 =
6points
2 B: 2 x 4 = 8points
2 C: 2 x 3 = 6points
His total points = 32+10+6+8+6 =62 points
He will now await the school to release the cut
off point for
his course.
