The missions and objective of the Remedial Science Programme of this University were:
To assist the educationally less developed state and the FCT to prop up the number of their candidate qualified to gain admission into the science based programmes of the University.
To ensure that the University achieves a science/arts ratio of 60/40 in its general admission.
To augment the number of candidate eligible for admission into science based programme of the University.
The School Examination Board is composed of the Director and five (5) course co-ordinators in the following Departments:
A candidate must have attempted Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. GCE “O” Level and must have at least three (3) credit. Two (2) of which must be in the aforementioned science subjects.
The programme last for two semesters and the requirement for passing the programme is that a candidate must pass in any two of the four (4) science subjects. And for a candidate to qualify for placement into any science based degree programme, a candidate must meet the cutoff point in JAMB as approved by senate in addition to passing in any two science Remedial subjects a candidate must have an aggregate of five credits including English and Mathematics earned from two sitting. The result obtained at Remedial being one sitting and the other could either be SSCE, NECO OR GCE Ordinary Level.
Since the subject is examined twice one at the end of each semester. At the end of a year the average of raw scores is worked out for each student. In each subject is as followed:
Continuous Assessment and other test 40%
End of Semester Examination 60%. There are no re-sits, no repeat, and no carry over for any Remedial examination failed.
