The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Obi has disclosed that her administration would soon set machinery in motion for the digitalization of the Postgraduate School to ensure seamless computation and prompt release of students' results to enable them to graduate as and when due.

Prof. Florence Obi disclosed this at the Orientation Ceremony for the 2020/2021 Admitted Students of Postgraduate School held at the International Conference Centre of the institution.

She said the digitalization, which will cut across other segments of the institution, is in tandem with the institution’s policy on prompt release of students’ results.

Describing the newly admitted PG Students as ‘critical stakeholders’, the University helmsman said no student deserves to stay longer than the stipulated period allocated for a programme, a cogent reason, it has decided to digitalize its operations.

Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Angela Oyo-Ita, the Vice-Chancellor charged them to be dedicated to their studies and purge themselves of negative tendencies, saying her administration is poised to provide a conducive learning environment to enable them to achieve their academic dreams.

This is even as she called on them to respect their ethnic and sociocultural differences to ensure peace and unity among them.

Hear her, ‘’ you are in the right place. The current University administration would digitalize the Postgraduate school to ensure that there are no delays in the release of results.

'' We will strive to provide a conducive teaching and learning environment in the school to enable you to achieve academic excellence.’’

The Dean, Postgraduate School, Prof. Imo Edet Umoinyang, in his remarks, said their admission into the institution has opened another chapter in their academic life.

While congratulating them for scaling the hurdles in the course of their admission, he urged them to be focused on their studies, stressing that, the Postgraduate School is well-positioned to help them achieve their academic goals.

He said, ‘’ We admitted all of you because you met the admission requirements. We promise to serve you better to enable you to achieve your academic goals.’’

Also speaking, President, Postgraduate Students Union, Comrade Ololo John Kujoh said their journey in the Postgraduate School would increase their friendship with colleagues, tutors and supervisors for a better tomorrow.

Comrade Kujoh said Unical is incredibly blessed with human and material resources that will guide them in their academic endeavours.

He said there is no shortcut to academic success as only a serious approach can guarantee a glorious and excellent result.

The PG Union President said to achieve desired results, the opportunity they have to study must be consolidated with adequate preparation and good time management.

He also urged the students to ‘make hay while the sun shines’ by putting their best foot forward at all times, to graduate with good grades.

Comrade Kujoh also charged them to be enthusiastic and participate in every event that concerns their purpose in school.

'' Try to be inquisitive so that you can participate when others are doing it. Try to be constructive in your priorities and always remain focused on what is necessary without frivolity.

‘’ With effort and consistency, you can achieve anything you wish. At the end of this journey, you are going to have a treasure of memories’’, he added.

Ebu); Operations of Departmental and Faculty Postgraduate Committees, Prof. Emmanuel Ekuri, TURNITIN and Postgraduate School E-learning Platform by the TURNITIN Officer, Dr Princewill Odum and Postgraduate School-Based General Courses by Prof. Eyong Ubana Eyong.
