The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma students of Greensprings School have been awarded scholarships amounting to $4.7 million from top universities and colleges across the world. Some of the institutions include the University of Manchester, King’s College London, University of Leeds, University of Alberta, University of Toronto, University of Warwick, among others.

The Dean of the IB Diploma Programme, Mr Olubunmi Solola disclosed that this was the second time the students were awarded the scholarship and maintained that the IB Diploma programme was fast gaining popularity among students all over the world. Solola stated that aside from the main subjects of the Diploma programme, the students were also groomed to acquire essential life skills such as time management, discipline, confidence, among others.

He further added that the programme exposes students to three core elements of its rich curriculum which include “Theory of Knowledge (TOK), which helps students reflect on the nature of knowledge and on how they know what they claim to know; the extended essay, which is an independent, self-directed piece of research, finishing with a 4,000-word paper; and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS), which is a community service project.

According to him, these core elements prepare students for life in the university and makes IB Diploma students most preferred over students of other post-secondary school programmes. It is worthy to note that the IB Diploma Programme is for two years and students seeking admission into the programme must have five credits in their O’Levels (GCSEs, IGCSEs or WASSCE).
