The Executive Council of the Students’ Union Government (SUG), University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus (UNEC), has announced a new transportation arrangement aimed at easing movement for students residing in the Maryland area.
According to an official notice issued on 17th March 2026, the campus shuttle will now begin operating directly from Maryland to various faculties. This move follows numerous complaints from students regarding the physical stress of trekking down the hill to access transport services.

The SUG stated that this decision was made in direct response to concerns raised by the student body. The primary goal is to make campus transportation more convenient, accessible, and student-friendly, particularly for those living in further residential clusters.
While the new route is a win for students, shuttle drivers have reportedly raised concerns regarding the sustainability of the service. Reports indicate a low level of student compliance in boarding the shuttles from the new pickup point, which impacts the drivers' ability to maintain the route profitably.
"The shuttle drivers depend on this service to meet their daily needs. Student cooperation is crucial to the success and continuity of this initiative."
To evaluate the long-term viability of this route, the new arrangement has been introduced on a one-week trial basis. During this period, the SUG is closely monitoring passenger traffic. The following conditions apply:
The SUG leadership calls on all affected students to take advantage of this opportunity and support the test run to ensure the service becomes permanent.
