Bayero University's School of Continuing Education (SCE) will mount a degree programme in which admission would be done through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME), the Dean of the School, Dr. Salihu Lawal, has revealed.

He made this known on Tuesday, 13 October 2020 at the Council Chamber when he led Provosts and Rectors from the affiliated institutions who paid a courtesy visit on the Vice-Chancellor, He said that the idea was part of the diversification of the School to deliver on its mandate of giving the teeming populace opportunity for degree education.

According to him, the policy was part of the School's mandate of providing flexible and liberal avenue for the teeming youths to acquire degree certificates he revealed that arrangement to that effect has reached an advanced stage.

Dr. Salibu disclosed that at the moment, the School runs about 23 part-time degree programmes in different fields with about 5,000 students who came from all over the country. He also stated that the first set of the School would be graduated this year.

The Dean equally said the school is running some 26 degree programmes in six affiliate institutions which include Sa'adatu Rimi College of Education, Kumbotso (Kano State) Foderal College of Education, Katsina State; College of Education, Gumel (Jigawa State), A.D Rufai College of Education, Legal and General Studies Misau (Bauchi State) and College of Arabic, Islamic and Legal Studies, Ilorin, (Kwara State).

He said most of these programmes in the affiliate institutions have gotten full accreditation from the relevant regulatory bodies. The Dean said the School has been receiving a request to mount more programmes. He also hinted that very soon advertisement will be out for the sale of admission forms for the 2019/2020 academic session.

The heads of the affiliate institutions took turn one after the other and spoke on the relationship with BUK. They congratulated the new VC on his appointment and promised to work in harmony for his success. They offered a special prayer for a hitch-free tenure.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, commended the heads of the affiliate institutions for finding time to visit him over the appointment. He assured that his administration would do everything humanly possible to support the institutions with a view to making them prosper and develop.

Reacting to a request for the reduction of cut-off points for the affiliate degree programmes in their respective institutions, ProfessorAbbas said, this is a national policy and therefore, standards. He explained that quality in teaching and learning is what makes educational institution to prosper and "here in Bayero University, we have carved a name in this respect, that is why our graduands are respected anywhere they go." charged them not to compromise
