ASUU Strike Update Day 89: Outcome of Feb 1st Emergency Meeting

The Emergency meeting between the Academic Staff Union of Universities and the Federal Government on Friday ended in deadlock and was adjourned to February 7. The meeting which started few minutes to 12 noon and ended at 3:15 pm was held at the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Abuja.

The national president of the union, Biodun Ogunyemi, declined making any comment concerning the outcome of the meeting. According to him, he will only communicate the outcome of the meeting to journalists after he must have communicated with other members of the union..

According to him, ”we have another set of information for our members and we will like to hear from them before saying anything.

He however, disclosed that the meeting has been adjourned till next week Thursday.

On the other hand, the minister of labour and employment, Chris Ngige after the meeting said all the demands of the unions have been met.

Ngige further stated that the Government will not be able to afford the N50 Billion Naira ASUU is demanding as part of commitment towards the revitalisation of public universities; however, the FG has offered something reasonable which ASUU are taking back to their members..\

Both parties refused to give any specific details of what was discussed in the meeting.

The minister should stop telling lies. If all their demands have been met, why did the meeting ended in deadlock. APC administration lacks what it takes to take this country to the next level. What a shame.

  • lanskeed: The media likes to use sensational words like deedlock,nothing like DAT.government told asuu what they HV done and what they will do and asuu had to take d info back to their executive member for discussion.they promised to get back on Thursday this week.it is so because asuu president does not HV the power to call off the strike unilaterally.so be calm.am sure even asuu will salute this government effort in solving the humongous problem bedeviling education in Nigeria.

which one be emergency meeting again? they want to confuse the gullible ones, I see strike been called off after election unless buhari wants to get political scores

My school (FEDERAL UNIVERSITY LOKOJA) had on 4th of FEBRUARY, 2019 which was yesterday informed the returning students to start payment of their school fees... I think this is a good sign of the strike being called off
