The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has disclosed that the union is still on consultations with its members over the offer by the Federal Government. The ASUU president, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi stated this in an interview in Abuja. He however stated that the union will get back to the Federal Government before the end of Thursday January 10th, 2019.
According to the ASUU president, the strike is still on, the minister said we should go and consult and get back to the Federal Government on Thursday. ” So, we are still consulting and will be getting back to the Federal Government today, ”he added.
The Union had on Monday met with the Federal Government negotiation team led by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen. Chris Ngige. Some offers were made to ASUU which the union says it will have to consider with other members of the union before deciding on whether or not to call off the strike.
If ASUU accepts the offer by the Federal Government, that will signal the end of the two months old strike and students will be expected to go back to school by next week.
