Abstract
This research is aimed at unveiling the challenges and prospects of managing pension fund in the public service. In order to achieve these objectives, primary and secondary data formed the main source of information. Simple percentages, table and chi-square collected for this research, it was discovered that some factors militate against the management of the public pension funds, such as inconsistence, porosity in policy formulation and implementation and inadequate funding. Therefore the researcher recommended that government should ensure consistency in her policies relating to pension, the board should be adequately funded and qualified personnel should be employed to manage the affairs of the board. In conclusion, the researchers suggest that the government should meet the demand of paying the public civil servants after retiring from service.

In his regard, one think of the pressure of everyday living characterized by contently increasing cost of living and the disintegration of the social safety net, which African families and communities had traditionally provided for their members, especially children and the aged.
