Abstract:
Sorption and desorption of rifampicin were assessed on three different soil. The sorption mechanism was studied in terms of equilibrium and kinetics at different pH. Linear, Freundlich, and Langmuir isotherm models were adopted to study the isotherm. The experimental data were best described by pseudo-second-order kinetics (R2 = 1.00). It was observed that rifampicin absorbs better on soil with the lowest organic carbon content. Sorption was observed to increase with a decrease in aqueous pH and an increase in ionic strength. The study observed a gradual decrease in rifampicin sorption with an increasing concentration of dissolved organic matter. The soil mineral phase seems to be a better surface for adsorption of rifampicin
