The policy of assimilation was a French colonial policy aimed at integrating African colonies into French culture and administration, treating them as extensions of France rather than separate territories. This policy was most successfully implemented in the Four Communes of Senegal: Gorée, Saint-Louis, Dakar, and Rufisque.
